Until September 26, the Vancouver Museum will dedicate a special exhibition to . . . shoes. But not just that: those of John Fluevog Shoes Vancouver's brand which is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The title of the exhibition, "Fox, Fluevog & Friends: The story behind the shoes" suggests that the creations of Peter Fox, John Fluevog and Ken Rice hide a story. It does not take more to pique the curiosity of fashionistas. But it would be a mistake to think that exposure is only for fashion fanatics. The 70s to today, it reveals the soul of a Vancouver avant-garde, creative and provocative. Organized chronologically, the exhibition recounts the meeting of three men and portrays their personality through their works. Text, photos, showcases shoes and various archives trace 40 years of creation. We note in particular the document entitled The 10 Commandments of Fluevog Shoes, which are the rules governing the conduct of employees, all with humor and professionalism. The exhibition gives body to the brand and highlights the history of handcrafted in Vancouver. In 1969, Peter Fox, an employee of the shoe Sheppard's hired the young John Fluevog Vancouver-as a seller. The two men knew each other already and it's a year later they decide to open their own shop. The case was quickly reached: they borrow money to the father of John, find a room in the heart of Gastown, and settled with the blessing of Marshall Sheppard, their former employer. Their shoes are still hand made in factories on a human scale. At that time, the area of ??the old Vancouver is booming and saw many small shops set up textile and decoration. In 1972, the two creators require the services of the craftsman and artist Ken Rice, specializes in leather work. Thanks in part to his expertise as Fox & Fluevog markets in the 70's shoes with leather platform. It is today a return of such shoes, but the models produced by Vancouver-creators show a much extravagance of his time. Peter Fox and Ken Rice, however, will quickly leave the brand. Peter opened his shop in New York in the late 70's. At that time, the demand for shoes with platform boots gothic decreases and Ken also decided to create his own collection. While the three partners will be separated, they continue to work together to produce models of the more fanciful than others. John Fluevog has always had the greatest influence on the brand and its development. In the early 80's, competition from producers in the chain increases. He decided to differentiate and put on two of its assets: its brand and creative talent. He forges an image totally shifted. The shoes he produces are marked with his name. Buyers, aware of his world and his originality, let him know. This encourages John to establish a true partnership with its customers. Since 1984 he has established a number of art competitions and styling of the shoe. John Fluevog has built a true community whose members are named the "Fluevogers. " Moreover, if the inspiration comes to you, you can sketch a shoe on a wall of the exhibition. The most modern in turn send their vision of the next model Fluevog on the website of the brand. John has remained at the heart of trends and with its base, it often ahead of fashion. Precisely, the audacity of his creations actually difficult shoes to wear in everyday life, but perfect for extreme styles, especially in the middle of the show. Platforms such gigantic gothic boots 70 years, through the disco boots, Fluevog was inspired by the styles of each era by sublimating. The Fluevogers among their members Madonna, Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth, and Jack White of White Stripes - who has the honor to have a pair in his name. The shoes of the latter are also displayed at the museum in the window subtly titled 'These Shoes Rock. " By staying abreast of trends in the streets of Vancouver, listening to his Fluevogers, and pushing his creative genius beyond its limits, John Fluevog has created a myth, however, that keeps his distance from mass consumption . The exhibition on the forefront of creativity in the fashion Vancouverites. With "Fox, Fluevog & Friends", the mundane, everyday what the shoe is almost a work of art. Finally, Gastown and Vancouver as a whole contain many surprises. And as John Fluevog used to say: "You May Not like these shoes - too bad. I do. " (You can not love these shoes - too bad, I do. ) ?. . .
